
Eagles Dominate Marshalltown with Three-Game Road Sweep
Marshalltown, IA- The Kirkwood Eagles baseball team delivered an offensive explosion over the weekend, sweeping a three-game ICCAC road series against Marshalltown Community College. The Eagles scored a combined 41 runs over the three contests, extending their strong conference play and showcasing depth in both hitting and pitching.
Game 1: Kirkwood 8, Marshalltown 1
Kirkwood opened the series with a controlled 8-1 win behind a solid outing from starting pitcher Andrew Carroll, who went six innings, allowing just four hits and one unearned run while striking out five. Reece Wrage closed the final inning with a clean frame.
Offensively, Lane Spieker led the way with a home run and four RBIs, while Landon Frost added three RBIs of his own. Blake Lundholm and Kade Knock each chipped in multi-hit games, and Kirkwood out-hit Marshalltown 11-4. The Eagles stole four bases and took advantage of three defensive errors by the home team.
Game 2: Kirkwood 20, Marshalltown 8
The Eagles' offense erupted in the second game of the doubleheader, racking up 19 hits and 20 runs in a nine-inning win. Cal Sullivan powered the lineup with two home runs and seven RBIs, while Kade Knock added a home run and drove in five runs. Jaxon Schumacher also homered as part of a 3-hit, 2-RBI game.
CJ Davis, Adam Kayko, and Blake Lundholm all had multi-hit efforts as well. On the mound, Beau Leisure earned the win, striking out 10 over 5.2 innings. Kirkwood scored in seven of the nine innings, including a four-run sixth and another four-run eighth.
Game 3: Kirkwood 13, Marshalltown 3
Kirkwood completed the sweep with a 13-3 win on Sunday, continuing their dominant weekend at the plate. Ty Andrews, Cal Sullivan, and Lane Spieker each homered, while Matt Stoltenberg and CJ Davis delivered extra-base hits and multiple RBIs.
Starting pitcher Jackson Niederwerder picked up the win, allowing one run on five hits in five innings of work. Grant Miller and Caden Wilson closed out the game, combining for four strikeouts over the final two frames.
