Wedeking sparkles for KCC softball

The Southwestern Spartans have seen enough of Kirkwood freshman Kori Wedeking.

Wedeking tossed a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts Sunday as the seventh-ranked Kirkwood Eagles blanked Southwestern, 2-0, in the second game of an ICCAC doubleheader at Kirkwood.

It was Wedeking's second straight masterpiece against the Spartans, coming a day after she pitched a two-hit shutout in a 9-0 triumph on Saturday.

Wedeking has a 9-1 record and 1.31 ERA, with 69 strikeouts and only 11 walks in 59 innings.

Kirkwood won the first game Sunday, 13-5, for a four-game sweep over Southwestern. The Eagles are 15-4 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

Emilee Linder, Austyn Creese, and Sydney Albaugh belted home runs for Kirkwood in the 13-5 verdict in the opener. Linder was 3-for-5 and drove in three runs. Olivia Richards went 3-for-4 with a triple. Albaugh was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Creese collected two RBIs.

Isabelle True (3-2) allowed only one earned run in four innings for the victory in Game 1.

Kirkwood collected only four singles in the 2-0 victory in the nightcap, but they scored in the third inning and fifth inning to back Wedeking's strong performance in the circle.
