Kirkwood ousted at NJCAA softball tourney
OXFORD, Ala. - The Kirkwood Eagles lost to Mississippi Gulf Coast, 8-2 in eight innings Thursday and were eliminated from the NJCAA Division II softball tournament.
Kirkwood finished with a 2-2 record at the tournament and ended the season with a 54-12 overall record.
The Eagles trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning and were down to their final out against Mississippi Gulf Coast, but two runs scored on an error to tie the game 2-2 and force extra innings.
Mississippi Gulf Coast hit a two-run homer to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning and tacked on four more runs for the victory.
