Bio
Max Steffens, an eastern Iowa native, is in his first season as the Pitching Coach for Kirkwood. He holds a bachelor’s degree is Sports Management and a master’s in Sports Administration and Leadership.
Prior to joining the coaching staff, Max played for Iowa Central CC. There he compiled a 7-2 record with 6 complete games as a freshman with a 3.14 ERA. He led the ICCAC (conference games only) in Innings Pitched (40), wins (6), shutouts (3), ERA (1.35), CG, and WHIP. He was named First Team All-Region and First Team All-District. As a sophomore he had a 5-2 record with a 5.82 ERA while earning Honorable Mention All-Region and First-Team NJCAA Academic All-American status after posting a 4.0 GPA.
After Iowa Central, Max transferred to Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. In his first year at Augustana he was named a NCBWA Division II Second-Team All American…NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the Year NCBWA Central Region First-Team…D2CCA Central Region Pitcher of the Year…NCBA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-Region First Team…NSIC Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year…First Team All-NSIC…NSIC Gold Glove award winner. He made 15 starts including seven complete games, going 9-1 with a 2.77. He broke the Augustana record for starts and innings pitched and was named to the Spring NSIC All-Academic Team. For his senior year he was named NSIC Preseason Pitcher of the Year and earned Second-Team All-NSIC, with a 2.81 ERA and 8-2 record. He also earned a spot on the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence.
Max’s post-collegiate career included playing parts of 3 seasons professionally in the independent Frontier League and American Association. Prior to Kirkwood, Max worked at Driveline Baseball, a popular private training facility where many major league players go to train. Max is excited to further the mission and vision that Coach Rima has for the success of this team. He is eager to help push the Eagles to another World Series appearance.
