NJCAA Dishes Out All-American Honors for Softball

The NJCAA released the 2019 All-American lists for Division I and Division II Softball on Monday.

From Division II, Kirkwood was represented by receiving two Second Team honors. DMACC landed the two First team Honorees, also getting a Second Team spot and an Honorable Mention selection was Iowa Central.

Erin Hocker and Shelby Hulsebus were the two Eagles that made Second Team. Hocker was no stranger to the top of the leaderboards within the conference-leading in wins with 31 which was good enough for second in the nation, and strikeouts, sending down 274 opponents, also second best.

Shelby Hulsebus flew around the bases all year ending the season leading the nation in stolen bases with 58, seven more than second place. She was named New Balance Golden Shoe winner by the NFCA this year.

Josie Swafford and Mia Ruther were selected to First Team from the ICCAC. Swafford led the conference in ERA with a dominant 1.37, 5th best in the country along with her third most strikeouts, 261.

Ruther made an impact with her bat hitting .580 which led the conference and earned ICCAC Player of the Year. She made it count on the bases running her way to third place in the conference with 46 stolen bases. Ruther is one of three players recognized on this list as a two-time All-American, earning First Team last year as well.

To round out the NJCAA All-American teams within the ICCAC, Iowa Central's Bre Tjebben and Cheyanne Andersen received recognition. As a utility selection, Tjebben batted .443 with 13 home runs and 54 RBI, while going 4-2 as a pitcher with four saves.

Andersen was clutch with runners on base, collecting 68 RBI's, third most in the NJCAA Division II ranks.
