Hall of Fame Criteria


PURPOSE

The purpose of the Kirkwood Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize former Kirkwood student-athletes, coaches teams and contributors for their outstanding performance, work, support and/or significant contributions to Kirkwood Community College Athletics.

GENERAL CRITERIA

• The Kirkwood Athletic Hall of Fame shall be open to former intercollegiate student-athletes and other personnel who have distinguished themselves as players, coaches, teams or contributors.

• Criteria and qualifications will be based primarily upon the candidates’ participation while attending or serving Kirkwood Community College. However, accomplishments after leaving Kirkwood may be an important point of consideration.

• All candidates after graduation or departure from Kirkwood Community College, need to have continued to exemplify the leadership, service, and distinction that Kirkwood Community College seeks to promote.

• Any person may submit nominations for consideration. Once nominated, candidates will continue to be a nominee for up to three succeeding years.

• Nomination forms are due to the Athletic Director by August 1.

ELIGIBILITY

  1. Student-Athlete – Must have participated in a sponsored sport and demonstrated a high degree of

    success for a minimum of (1) season and completed a minimum of (1) academic year. The individual must have been in good academic standing during his/her enrollment at the college. The individual is considered eligible after having been away from the college for a minimum of (5) years.

  2. Team – Must have had an outstanding record and demonstrated success on a national level during any given season. Must have completed their competition a minimum of (5) years prior to the date of nomination.

  3. Coach – Must have achieved a significant winning record, distinct team accomplishments and/or professional recognition while having established a positive relationship with student-athletes and supported their academic pursuits. Must have held the head coaching position in that sport for a minimum of (5) years.

  4. Contributor – The individual must have made a significant contribution and/or rendered extraordinary service to Kirkwood Community College.

  5. Posthumous awards may be considered.

NOMINATION

NOMINATE NOW

Nominations will be solicited from present and retired Kirkwood coaches, administrators, alumni, faculty, staff and the current Hall of Fame committee. Nominees from the previous inductions will be automatically considered by the committee. A deadline for submitting nominations will be established by the selection committee. Nominations shall be submitted to the Director of Athletics.

Materials required for each Nominee shall include:
1. Completed Nomination form.
2. Recent or past photograph of the nominee.
3. Newspaper clippings, magazine articles and other supporting materials are strongly encouraged.

KIRKWOOD ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME NOMINATION FORM

The Hall of Fame categories and criteria include:

1. Student-Athlete: Individuals selected in this category have displayed extraordinary ability while participating in athletics at Kirkwood Community College.

  1. Student-Athletes are eligible for consideration after a minimum of five years after they have completed their athletic eligibility at Kirkwood Community College.

  2. Student-Athletes must have either 1) graduated from Kirkwood Community College; or 2) transferred in good academic standing from Kirkwood Community College.

  3. Candidates must have had outstanding athletic achievements while at Kirkwood Community College. Suggested guidelines include:

    i. An All-Conference or All-Region Selection
    ii. An NJCAA All-American Selection
    iii. A holder of a school, conference, region, or national record iv. An NJCAA champion (in an individual sport)

2. Team: Teams in this category had an outstanding record or accomplishment such as a national championship, region championship or undefeated season, or National tournament qualifier.

  1. A team shall be eligible for induction as one inductee.

  2. The induction of a team shall not prohibit the separate induction of one or more of its

    members.

3. Coach: Must have achieved a significant winning record, distinct team accomplishments, and/or professional recognition while having established a positive relationship with student-athletes and supported their academic pursuits. If a former coach, the following guidelines will be considered:

  1. The nominee must have been on staff at Kirkwood Community College for a minimum of five years.

  2. Candidate must have had outstanding achievements during his or her career at Kirkwood Community College. Suggested guidelines include:

    i. Season records
    ii. Conference, Region, or National “Coach of the Year” iii. Significant professional recognition

  3. The nominee must have attained significant recognition in his/her field.

  4. Coaches will become eligible for consideration upon their termination of head coaching

    employment at Kirkwood Community College.

4. Contributor: Individuals or groups (administrators, community members, faculty/staff, etc.) selected in this category have displayed outstanding leadership and/or support for any sport or sports sponsored by Kirkwood Community College. Consideration for selection is based on the unique or significant contributions the candidates have made to Kirkwood Community College Athletics.

Athletic Hall of Fame Committee

The selection committee shall consist of all standing head coaches within the athletic department as well as at-large members chosen by the Director of Athletics. The Director of Athletics will serve as the committee chairperson.

Committee members shall represent a diverse cross-section of participants from men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletics, coaches, and other individuals identified by the chair of the committee.

INDUCTION

Newly selected Kirkwood Athletic Hall of Fame members shall be officially notified by the Director of Athletics and formally inducted at the Kirkwood Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
