2024 Kirkwood Athletics Hall of Fame Class Announced

 

Cedar Rapids, IA- Kirkwood Community College Athletic Department has announced the Hall of Fame Class of 2024. The three inductees include two individuals and the first team inducted into the Kirkwood Athletics Hall of Fame. The three-member class will be officially inducted on February 9, 2024. 

The Athletics Hall of Fame class features two highly decorated individuals in Kirkwood athletic history and a national championship team. The inductees are Kylee (Knop) Vargason (Softball, 2008-10), Vicki Ellison (Volleyball, 1996-98), and the 1998 Men’s National Championship Basketball Team. 

This year's class will be recognized with a formal social, dinner, and induction on Friday, February 9th at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center. The class will also be recognized between the Kirkwood Women’s and Men's Basketball games vs. Iowa Western CC on Saturday, February 10th.

    • 3rd in overall kills per set 
    • 5th place finish in the 1997 NJCAA Division I National Championship 
    • 46 kill game  

Kylee (Knop) Vargason- Softball, 2008-10

  • 2X (2009, 2010) NJCAA Division II Second Team-All American
  • 2X (2009, 2010) Louisville Slugger NFCA Second Team All-American
  • Kirkwood Accomplishments
    • 47-9 Career Record 
      • 4th most career wins
    • 282 Career Strikeouts 
      • 9th All-Time 
      • Freshman Year- 22-5 record (138 Strikeouts)
      • Sophomore Year- 25-4 record (144 Strikeouts)
    • 2013-15 Assistant coach at Kirkwood Community College
    • Coached 4 All-American pitchers 
    • Coached in the NJCAA World Series 
  • Played at USC-Aiken 2010-2011 and Upper Iowa University 2011-2012

Men’s Basketball Team- 1998  

  • 1998 NJCAA Division II National Champions 
  • Overall Record: 31-6
