EAGLES FALL IN WORLD SERIES OPENER

ENID, Okla. - The Kirkwood Eagles lost to Western Oklahoma State, 8-2, in the opening round of the NJCAA Division II World Series Saturday at the David Allen Memorial Stadium in Enid, Okla.

The Eagles (41-21) will face Lackawanna College of Pennsylvania (29-12) in an elimination game in the losers bracket Sunday at 10 a.m.

Juan Pimental (9-2) tossed a complete game for Western Oklahoma State. He threw 134 pitches in the nine-inning game, with 11 strikeouts.

Reece Beuter (6-3) pitched 1 2/3 innings for Kirkwood and left the game in the second inning with an apparent arm injury. He was charged with five earned runs. Jake Matthaidess pitched 6 1/2 innings in relief and allowed only one earned run.

Alex Pendergast went 3-for-4 for the Eagles. Kirkwood committed four errors.

Western Oklahoma State is seeded No. 3 in the 10-team tournament. Kirkwood is seeded No. 6 and Lackawanna is seeded 10th.
