Bio

Kim Muhl (pronounced "moo-ul") completed his 34th season as head coach for the women's basketball program, coming off a 3rd place national finish last season. Since coming to Kirkwood in September '89, Muhl has led his teams to 31 regional finals, 22 national tournaments, and 8 national titles in his Hall of Fame career. Muhl has produced 34 consecutive 20-win seasons including a school record of 37 wins in 2009-'10 and 2016-'17 and has been the only coach in Kirkwood history to go undefeated in the 2016-'17 season (37-0).

Muhl has been named Region XI Coach of the Year 21 times (1990, '95, '97, '98, '99, 2002-'10, '12, '17, '18, '21,'22 and 2023) and his teams have won regional basketball titles those same years. Muhl's basketball teams have been regional runner-up eight times. He was named "Outstanding Coach of the Tournament" at the: 1997, 2002, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2017, and 2022 NJCAA Division II National Tournaments. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) named Muhl the Russell Athletic 2007 JC/CC Coach of the Year and the US Marine Corps 2017. Coach Muhl received his greatest award in 2011 by being selected into the NJCAA Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

Muhl currently sports a 1010-169 record, including a phenomenal 418-33 record at home. From 2006 until February 2011 his teams won 106 straight conference games. He has coached 33 All-Americans including 16 First Team All-Americans and 7 WBCA All-Americans and 2 NJCAA National Players of the Year.  Coach Muhl holds the NJCAA DII women's record of 39 straight wins.

Muhl has attracted regional and national attention for Eagle programs. The women's basketball teams have been ranked No.1 in the NJCAA Division II polls on several occasions. Four-year colleges have been regular visitors to Kirkwood's campus. Former Kirkwood players under Muhl have gone on to play at Northern Illinois, Idaho State, Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Oregon, South Florida, Drake, Illinois State, Southwest Missouri State, St. Johns, Stetson, Marquette, and various NCAA Division II and NAIA schools.
