Bio

Dave Brown will begin his first season as Head Volleyball Coach at Kirkwood Community College after spending the past 2 seasons at the University of Iowa as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. From 2014 to 2018, the Muskego, Wisconsin-native spent four seasons as Associate Head Coach at the University of Southern Mississippi. Following his time in Hattiesburg, Brown went on to coach 2 seasons as Associate Head Coach at Loyola University in Chicago between 2018 and 2019.

During his 2 years with the Hawkeyes, Brown coached AVCA All-North Region Honorable Mention, Courtney Buzzerio, who was honored with second and first team All-Big Ten honors during her last 2 seasons. Brown also worked with Hannah Clayton and Amiya Jones, middle blockers for the program, who hold the second and fourth highest hitting percentages in Iowa Volleyball history, respectively.

In 2019, the Ramblers put together one of their most successful seasons in over a decade. The team established a single-season program record for Missouri Valley Conference wins by going 14-4 in league play. The Ramblers successful campaign propelled them to a second-place finish in the MVC, the program’s best since joining the league. Loyola, which was picked fifth in the league’s preseason poll, closed out the season with 21 wins, the most the program has seen since 2004.

In 2018, Brown’s steadying influence helped the Ramblers win 8 of their first 11 matches and closed out the year with a winning record for the first time since 2015. In addition to their winning record, the Ramblers were one of only 18 NCAA Division I programs to boast at least a 10-game improvement in the win column during the 2017 season. Loyola sat atop the Missouri Valley Conference in blocks with 2.40 per set, its most in a single season since 2007.

Brown was one of 11 NCAA Division I women’s coaches to receive the 30 Under 30 Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in 2018 as one of the up-and-coming coaches in the sport.

During his four seasons on staff at Southern Mississippi, Brown helped coach the Golden Eagles to four 20-win campaigns, including a 20-12 mark in 2017. As the program’s recruiting coordinator, he brought in the 2016 Conference USA Freshman of the Year, Catherine Repsher, and developed the 2014 and 2015 Conference USA Libero of the Year, Mary Pursell.

Prior to his success at Southern Mississippi, Brown spent one season as a volunteer assistant coach at UC Santa Barbara, playing a key role in the Gauchos winning the 2013 Big West Conference Tournament title, earning a NCAA Tournament bid for the first time since 2009. He was awarded the 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship.

Brown is a 2013 graduate from the University of Wisconsin.
