KCC baseball team drops 2 tight games


COUNCIL BLUFFS - The Kirkwood baseball team got the pitching on Saturday, but not enough hitting.

Iowa Western swept the Eagles, 2-1 and 5-3, in an ICCAC doubleheader in Council Bluffs.

Luke Llewellyn (1-1) pitched a complete game for Kirkwood in the opener. He allowed five hits and two runs, with 12 strikeouts and two walks.

Chase Moseley collected a triple and an RBI for the Eagles.

Jake Matthaidess (2-1) tossed six strong innings in the 5-3 loss in the nightcap. He allowed four hits and three runs, with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Moseley went 2-for-5 and scored two runs in Game 2. Joel Vaske was 2-for-4, with a double, triple and two RBIs. Andrue Henry hit a home run.

Kirkwood fell to 8-11 overall and 4-4 in the conference. Iowa Western raised its records to 17-4 overall and 8-0 in the league.
