Kirkwood Softball Shuts Out Ellsworth in Dominant Doubleheader

Iowa Falls, IA- Kirkwood Community College softball delivered a commanding performance on the road Wednesday, sweeping a doubleheader against Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls with back-to-back shutouts, winning 14-0 and 10-0.

In Game 1, the Eagles wasted no time taking control, scoring in every inning except the second. The team put up five runs in the third and six in the fifth to close the game in five innings. Sophia Kreutner led the offense with two hits and five RBIs, including a double. Kiya Johnson and Reese Stockman each recorded a triple and two RBIs. Shannon Finn added two hits and two RBIs, and Mischa Reiners crossed the plate three times while driving in one.

Peyton Paulsen was dominant in the circle, throwing a five-inning no-hitter and striking out eight. The win improved her record to 20-2.

Game 2 followed a similar script. Kirkwood scored three runs in each of the first two innings and closed out the game with three more in the fifth. Mischa Reiners continued her strong day with two hits and four RBIs. Peyton Johnson scored three times and drove in two, while Jenna Thurm and Brenna Ross each added an RBI. Shannon Finn and Kinsley Theobald both notched multi-hit efforts.

Kiya Johnson started in the circle and pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win, allowing three hits and striking out two. Carley Cavanagh and Natalie Vitek each pitched a scoreless inning in relief, combining to limit Ellsworth to just five hits on the game.

Next up is a 4 game stand for this Friday and Saturday that has the Eagles traveling to Norfolk and Boone to take on Northeast and DMACC.
