Kirkwood 4, Mississippi Gulf Coast 1
Sophia Kreutner's 2-run home run in the top of the 6th inning broke open a 2-1 game and led the Kirkwood softball team to an opening-day win against Mississippi Gulf Coast. Kiya Johnson added two hits including a double to pace Kirkwood's offense. Peyton Paulsen (1-0) earned the win in the circle allowing 1 run on 3 hits in her complete game effort.

The Kirkwood offense was held to 5 hits in game 2. Peyton Johnson doubled for the Eagles.
The Eagles will be back in action today for a doubleheader with Meridian Community College. The first pitch will be at 12 p.m.
