Volleyball Rakes In Postseason Honors

AMES -- The ICCAC announced the 2017 postseason volleyball awards on Monday, with a handful of Kirkwood standouts earning recognition. The Eagles' Ady Wintermote was named the ICCAC Freshman of the Year by a vote of the conference's coaches, while Kirkwood's head coach Jill Williams was named ICCAC Coach of the Year. Addtionally, six other Eagles earned a place on the All-Region and All-Conference Teams.

Williams led the Eagles to an undefeated 8-0 ICCAC record for the second straight season while also claiming the Kirkwood volleyball program's 12th conference championship.

Sophomore Margaret Micka and Wintermote were named to the All-Region First Team. Micka was second on the team in both kills (427) and digs (500), hitting at a percentage of .156 to go along with 3.29 digs per set. Micka ranked fifth in the conference in total kills. She also had 1,549 total attacks, which was second highest in the NJCAA. Wintermote led the Eagles offensive attack with 488 kills with a .231 hitting percentage and collected 93 blocks. The outside hitter finished second in the conference in both kills per set and total kills. She also ranked eighth in the NJCAA in total attacks. Wintermote ended the season ranking in the Top Ten in the ICCAC in seven different categories (kills, kills per set, hitting percentage, block assists, blocks per set, points, and points per set).

Representing the Eagles on the All-Region Second Team were sophomore McKenzie Petersen and freshman Abbi Tunis. Petersen led the Eagles defense with 192 blocks, ranking her eighth nationally. Additionally, Petersen contributed 188 kills to the Eagles' attack at a .262 hitting percentage. Tunis was a force on both sides of the net for the Eagles, ranking second on the team in blocks (121) and third in kills (260).

The Eagles were also well-represented on the All-Conference Teams as Micka and Wintermote were named to the First Team, while Petersen and Tunis were named Second Team members. Additionally, freshman Lauren Keane and Brianna Eberhardt were named Honorable Mention. Keane dished out a team-leading 1,068 assists, which ranked her fifth in the ICCAC, while also ranking third on the team in digs (423). Eberhardt led the Eagles from the back row with a team-high 554 digs on the season with 4.40 digs per set, ranking her 12th in the ICCAC.
