No. 8 Eagles split with ranked teams

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - The eighth-ranked Kirkwood women's volleyball team split matches with two other ranked teams Friday at the Illinois Central tournament.
 
The Eagles were nipped by 13th-ranked Illinois Central in their first match, 25-17, 25-21, 19-25, 21-25, 15-5 despite a strong comeback in the third and fourth sets.

Kirkwood swept undefeated, 16th-ranked Moraine Valley, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22, in its second match of the day.

Abbie Ericson led the Eagles against Illinois Central with 14 kills and eight blocks. Anna Gorsich had 11 kills and 16 digs. Madi Wagaman contributed 36 assists. Defensively for the Eagles Maranda Wheelock had 26 digs and Wagaman had 13. Taylor Carey had seven blocks and Maggie Peters had five.

Leading the Eagle offense were Ericson and Gorsich, they combined for 18 kills against Moraine Valley and Wagaman had 25 assists. Again, Wheelock leads the defense and collected 18 digs, while Wagaman added 12. At the net, Wagaman had six blocks and Carey and Peters blocked five apiece.

The split puts Kirkwood at 13-6 overall.  They'll be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 25 for a home ICCAC matchup vs. Northeast CC, 6:30 pm - Johnson Hall.
