Kirkwood Wins Eagle Fall Classic
Amana, IA- The Kirkwood Eagles competed in the Eagle Fall Classic this past Monday and Tuesday at the Amana Colonies Golf Club. The tournament had a total of 9 teams: Kirkwood, Northeast, Heartland, Hawkeye, Alexandria, Southeast, Upper Iowa, Mount Mercy, and Madison. This would be the last fall tournament for the Eagles and they would make the most of it on an extremely hard course with some tough fall conditions. Kirkwood would win the tournament with a +2 first round and a +16 second round for a team total +18 (594). The next closest team was at +33.
Monday was a cold day with blustery conditions but the Eagles pushed through impressively. Quinn Tinkler paced the Eagles with a -2 (70) first round. Tinkler birdied holes 5, 6, 11, 14, and 18. Freshman Aaron Estell would continue his impressive freshman campaign with an even first round 72. Nathan Offerman and Reid Hall weren't far behind either, shooting a 73 and 75 respectively.
Tuesday would prove to be Estell's day. He would shoot an impressive -4 (32) on the front 9. The back 9 would prove to be a challenge to all competitors, seeing high scores all day. Estell would shoot 4 over on the back for an even round (72) but that score would be good enough to finish in second place of the Eagle Classic. Tinkler would finish in 3rd place overall with a +3 and Nathan Offerman would finish 7th overall.
