KCC sweeps twinbill from Iowa Lakes
The Kirkwood Eagles have topped the century mark in home runs and there's still another month to play.
The seventh-ranked Eagles swept an ICCAC doubleheader from Iowa Lakes, 6-4 and 7-2, at the Kirkwood softball field Sunday to sweep the four-game series.
Kirkwood raised its records to 41-10 overall and 30-6 in the conference, still locked in a tight race with DMACC (29-5) for the ICCAC regular-season title.
The Eagles socked four homers on Sunday, giving them 102 for the year in 51 games for an average of exactly two round-trippers per game. Kirkwood leads all NJCAA Division II clubs in homers with Parkland right behind with 100.
Randyn Carter belted two homers and Peggy Klingler also connected in the 6-4 victory in Game 1. Carter was 3-for-3. Angie Gorkow went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.
Kori Wedeking (22-3, 1.76 ERA) tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts. She allowed two earned runs and leads the nation with her 22 victories.
Klingler hit another homer and drove in two runs in the 7-2 verdict in Game 2. Allie Ferrari had two hits.
Payton Akers (14-4, 2.57 ERA) pitched a complete game. She allowed one earned run with seven strikeouts.
Iowa Lakes fell to 20-16 overall and 20-14 in the conference.
