Softball Duo Earns Conference Awards

AMES -- Sophomores DoniRae Mayhew and Monika Bevans were recently named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference's (ICCAC) Pitcher of the Week and Athlete of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced yesterday afternoon from the league office.

Per ICCAC:

"DoniRae Mayhew – Kirkwood – RHP – Sophomore

Kirkwood played six games last week: Mayhew was the started in half of them. In her first outing against No. 6 Division I Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Mayhew gave up her only two runs of the week in four innings of work. The Eagles won the game 5-2. She was outstanding in 11 innings after that, allowing four hits and one walk in two victories over Allen County (14-0) and Labette (5-0). Mayhew is also third in NJCAA DII softball with seven home runs.

Monika Bevans – Kirkwood – Catcher – Sophomore

Bevans had a huge week from the plate for Kirkwood. Currently, the Eagles leader in RBIs (22) Bevans was 9 of 17 from the plate with three doubles, two homers, and 12 RBIs in five games. She has a .522 average to this point and is 10th in the country in triples with three. The Eagles are 17-1 and have won 10 games in a row."
