#12 Kirkwood Battles Hard in Doubleheader Loss to #5 Southeastern

Burlington, IA –In a gritty doubleheader showdown on the road, the Kirkwood Community College Eagles came up short against Southeastern Community College, dropping both contests by final scores of 10–5 and 6–1. Despite the losses, several Eagles delivered standout performances in a hard-fought effort.

Game 1: Kirkwood 5, Southeastern 10

The first game started off as a slugfest, with both teams exchanging runs early. Kirkwood jumped ahead with a four-run third inning, sparked by catcher Ty Andrews, who launched a home run and drove in three total runs in the game. First baseman Cal Sullivan added a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Kirkwood tallied seven hits, with Alex Altmann and Blake Lundholm also contributing offensively. However, defensive miscues haunted the Eagles—Matt Stoltenberg and Lundholm each committed two errors that proved costly as Southeastern pulled away with a five-run fifth inning to seal a 10–5 win.

On the mound, Boede Rahe (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season, giving up nine runs (four earned) over four innings. Southeastern capitalized with timely hitting, plating nine RBIs from six different players, led by Caleb Klein's three-hit, three-RBI effort.

Game 2: Kirkwood 1, Southeastern 6

In the second game, Kirkwood struggled to generate offense against a dominant Southeastern pitching staff. The Eagles managed just three hits in the 6–1 loss and struck out 15 times. Despite drawing five walks, they were unable to capitalize with runners on base.

Addison Binnie knocked in the lone run for Kirkwood, while Landon Frost showed plate discipline by drawing two walks.

On the pitching side, Reece Wrage (1-2) pitched a competitive 6.1 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) with three strikeouts.

Up next for the Eagles is a 3-game stand at home against Iowa Western beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at Lewis Field.
