Kirkwood Baseball Takes Series Win Over Northeast

Cedar Rapids, IA- Kirkwood Community College secured a series win over Northeast Community College this past weekend, taking two out of three games at home in Cedar Rapids.

The Eagles opened the series with a dominant 13-3 win on Friday afternoon. Kirkwood racked up 16 hits, with CJ Davis leading the way by going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Lane Spieker and Jaxon Schumacher each added three RBIs, while Matt Stoltenberg, Kade Knock, and Ty Andrews also drove in runs. The Eagles hit three home runs in the game, one each from Stoltenberg, Knock, and Spieker. Starting pitcher Boede Rahe improved to 6-1 on the season after allowing three earned runs over six innings with six strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Kirkwood dropped the second game 14-5 despite a home run by Kade Knock and RBIs from Blake Lundholm, Knock, and Cole Kinman. The Eagles managed just three hits and were hurt by early scoring from Northeast, who put up 10 runs in the first three innings. Andrew Carroll took the loss, allowing six earned runs in 2.2 innings of work.

Kirkwood bounced back to take the rubber match on Saturday, winning 10-5. Jaxon Schumacher delivered the big hit with a three-run homer, and Spieker, Davis, and Stoltenberg each added RBIs. The Eagles struck early with six runs in the first inning and sealed the game with four more in the eighth. Jackson Niederwerder earned the win in relief, improving to 6-1, while Davis Webb recorded the save.

Next up for Kirkwood is a doubleheader against Indian Hills in Centerville on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.
