Eagles Put on Strong Showing at District Fall Preview

The Kirkwood Golf team was back in action this week for a District Fall Preview at Gates Park Golf Course in Waterloo, Iowa. Kirkwood walked out victorious in the single day event with a team score of -3, a 2-stroke win over Alexandria T&CC. For the team side of the event, it was Grant Greazel, Gannon Hall, Quinn Tinkler, Nate Offerman, and Frank Haege representing the Eagles. Competing on the individual side was Leo Burger, Nathan Bratanata, Payton Burns, and Frank Haege.

After a round of 18, Grant Greazel conquered the individual leaderboard with a 68 (-4), a 2-stroke victory over Iowa Central's Nico Booyens. Nate Offerman and Nathan Bratanata found another thing in common on the day, shooting 1 under for 71 where both golfers tied for 4th place. Frank Haege broke even for the day shooting a 72, earning a share of 9th place. Additional scores for the Eagles include Leo Burger and Tate Brunk shooting a 73 (+1), T-13th), Quinn Tinkler shooting a 74 (+2, T-18th), Gannon Hall shooting a 75 (+3, T-21st), and Payton Burns shooting a 76 (+4, T-24th).

Grant Greazel secured 1st place on the leaderboard largely in part to his 5 birdies and 1 bogey, where he recorded 4 of those birdies and no bogies on the back 9. It wasn't Gannon Halls best performance today but he had some bright spots on the day, scoring 4 birdies. Quinn Tinkler was on fire to start the back 9, recording 3 birdies in a row. Nathan Offerman led the team in birdies on the day with 7, 4 on the front and 3 on the back. Frank Haege finished 2 under on the back 9 with 4 birdies of his own, a significant performance to help lead the Eagles to victory. After getting a birdie on hole 3, Nathan Bratanata faced adversity with a triple bogey on hole 4, but he would respond with 9 pars, 4 birdies, and only 1 bogey on the remaining 14 holes.

The win puts the Eagles 2-0 for the fall season. This Monday and Tuesday, September 18-19, the Eagles travel to Joplin, Missouri where they will compete in the NJCAA National Preview at the Twin Hills Country Club.
