Eagles Secure 4th at Virginia McCoy Fall Invite

The Kirkwood Golf team returned to action on Monday and Tuesday this week playing in the Virginia McCoy Fall Invite at The National Golf Club of Kansas City in Parkville, Missouri. Grant Greazel, Frank Haege, Gannon Hall, Quinn Tinkler, and Nate Offerman competed as a team, and Leo Burger competed in the event as an individual.

The Deuce at The National Golf Club proved to be treacherous to all teams participating, leaving no team nor individual with a score under par for round 1. After day 1, Kirkwood themselves in 4th place with a score of 306, only 3 strokes behind 2nd place and 9 strokes behind the lead. In round 2, a new day brought new life to the Eagles. Collectively, the Eagles improved on their round 1 score by 15 strokes, giving them a score of 291. Success proved to be infectious for all teams on day 2 with all teams seeing radical improvements in scores, but the Eagles were able to maintain their position to deliver a 4th place finish with a score of 597.

Leo Burger was the stand-out golfer for Kirkwood this week, delivering a 2nd place finish on the player leaderboard with a score of 143 (+1). For round 1, Burger found himself in 8th place with a score of 75 (+4), but he remained in striking distance. On day 2, Burger was hot off the grill shooting a round-best 68 (-3) that gave him a share of 2nd place.

The Eagles will look to wrap up their fall schedule in scary fashion when they compete in the Battle in the Ozarks on October 30th and 31st at the Old Kinderhook Golf Course in Camdenton, Missouri.
