Eagles Win Wartburg Invite

The Kirkwood Eagles headed up to Waverly, Iowa over the weekend to compete in the Wartburg Fall Invite. Kirkwood Golf dominated from start to finish in the event. After day 1 of golf, Kirkwood held the leaderboard as a team with a score of 283 (-5) with a 12-stroke lead over second place Wartburg College. For day 2, Kirkwood continued to shine, improving on their overall team performance for the second round with a score of 281 (-7) and winning the event with a score of 564 (-12) with second place coming from Buena Vista and Wartburg College shooting +15 on the weekend. 

Competing as a team for this event was Grant Greazel, Gannon Hall, Frank Haege, Quinn Tinkler, and Nate Offerman. Competing as individuals were Nathan Bratanata, Leo Burger, Payton Burns, and Tate Brunk.

For Round 1, the Eagles filled the top of the leaderboard. Grant Greazel finished the round in second place shooting 2-under for a score of 70. Frank Haege, Gannon Hall, and Quinn Tinkler were the only golfers taking a share of 3rd place shooting -1 under for a score of 71. Nathan Bratanata, Leo Burger, and Payton Burns all sat comfortably sharing a tie for 9th place with a score of 74 (+2) with Tate Brunk and Nate Offerman close behind with scores of 75 and 76, respectively.

Round 2, many of the Eagles improved on their performances from Saturday. Grant Greazel shot 5-under for the second day and secured the #1 finish across all golfers in the event. Gannon Hall and Frank Haege matched their performances the prior day to finish 2-under for a tie for 3rd place. Leo Burger finished even on the day, a 2-stroke improvement, to give him a tie for 6th place. Nathan Bratanata had another +2 performance to give him a +4 overall performance and a share of 11thplace. After struggling in the first round, Nate Offerman improve his overall score by 3 for a +1 round, catapulting him up to a share of 16th place.

Next up for the Kirkwood Golf team will be on Monday, October 9th, when they travel to Kansas City, Missouri, where they will compete in the Virginia McCoy Invite at The National Golf Club.
