Long, Howell Earn Conference Awards

AMES -- Sophomore shortstop Korry Howell and sophomore pitcher Peyton Long were named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference's (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The announcement was made from the league office yesterday afternoon. This is Howell's second Athlete of the Week award and Long's first Pitcher of the Week.

Per the ICCAC:

Peyton Long – Kirkwood – RHP - Sophomore

Long was nearly unhittable in his two starts on the mound last week, picking up two crucial victories for the Eagles. The sophomore right-hander allowed no earned runs in 11 innings while allowing just five hits and two walks and striking out 14. This season, the Des Moines native is 2-1 with a 2.87 E.R.A. in 37.2 innings of work. Kirkwood finishes up the regular season this weekend with a four-game set against Southeastern.

Korry Howell – Kirkwood – Shortstop – Sophomore

Howell played an incredible eight games last week for the Eagles. The sophomore infielder posted a .567 average with eight doubles, a triple and two home runs. The Chicago native also collected three walks, three stolen bases, 12 RBI and ten runs scored.  This season, Howell has a .391 batting average with 62 runs scored and a conference-leading 32 stolen bases.
