Howell, Lee Named Conference Players of the Week

AMES - Baseball duo Korry Howell and Hunter Lee were named Iowa Community College Athletic Conference's (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively for the week of May 7-14, as announced yesterday by the league office.

Per ICCAC:

Korry Howell – Kirkwood – Shortstop – Sophomore

Howell reached base 11 times in four games during the Region XI Tournament last week. He collected 10 hits (two doubles and eight singles) and walked one time in 17 at-bats. His speed on the base paths was crucial to Kirkwood's run production during the tournament. He stole five bases to advance into scoring position and tallied up eight runs in the four games. In the championship, Howell went 4 for 5 from the plate with two runs. Kirkwood will host Southeast (Neb.) in the North Plains District Championship on May 19 & 20.

Hunter Lee – Kirkwood – RHP – Sophomore

Lee pitched a great game in their Region XI Tournament match-up against 7th-ranked Southeastern last Saturday. In the semi-final, Lee tossed eight solid innings, giving up seven hits and walking two batters. He struck out six while allowing just two earned runs. The win helped them avoid moving to the loser's bracket and head straight to the championship game. The Eagles wrapped up the title knocking off DMACC 10-2.
