#9 Eagles Start Season Strong with 4-0 Weekend

Burlington, IA- The 9th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles wasted no time making their mark as they opened their spring season with an impressive 4-0 record over the weekend. Dominating their opponents with a combination of solid pitching, timely hitting, and strong defense, the Eagles set a high standard for themselves right out of the gate.

On Friday, Kirkwood kicked off their weekend by taking down Indian Hills with a 5-2 victory. Kyle Schult and Delia Schwartz helped get the Eagles on the board in the second inning, each driving in a run. Sailor Hall delivered a commendable performance on the mound, allowing just one earned run over seven innings while striking out two and issuing no walks. Schult led the offensive charge with three hits, while Peyton Johnson added two hits of her own.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Kirkwood continued their winning ways with an 8-0 triumph over Blackhawk. The Eagles established dominance right away, scoring early and often. Natalie Vietk threw three scoreless innings, supported by flawless defense behind her. Kirkwood's offense was firing on all cylinders, with contributions from Ross, Peyton Johnson, and Grace Zaugg helping to secure the victory.

Saturday saw Kirkwood pick up right where they left off, overpowering State Fair in a lopsided 17-0 win. Sydney Roe got the Eagles on the board early with a timely hit in the first inning, setting the tone for the game. Kirkwood's offense exploded in the third and fourth innings, piling on runs and putting the game out of reach for State Fair. With an impressive 13 hits in the game, the Eagles showcased their offensive firepower.

In their final game of the weekend, Kirkwood faced a tougher challenge against Spoon River but emerged victorious with a narrow 5-4 win. After a back-and-forth battle, Sydney Roe came up clutch with a three-run double in the sixth inning to give the Eagles the lead for good. Kirkwood's offense remained relentless, tallying 12 hits in the game to secure the victory.

With their perfect weekend in the books, the Eagles now turn their attention to the challenges ahead as they prepare to travel south for their next slate of games.
