#10 Kirkwood Eagles Go 2-0 Against #9 DMACC Bears

Boone, IA- The tenth-ranked Kirkwood Eagles traveled to Boone this weekend for a pivotal ICCAC matchup with the ninth-ranked DMACC Bears. Going into the game, Kirkwood was 5-1 in the ICCAC with DMACC sitting on top at 6-0. However, after the weekend, there would be a new leader in the ICCAC.

The first game of the weekend was a tightly contested matchup. Kirkwood was the first team to get on the board in the 3rd inning with Peyton Johnson doubling, scoring one run. After the Bears tied things up in the bottom of the 3rd, Delia Schwartz would take the lead back in the 4th when she singled, scoring one run. A home run by DMACC in the 6th would have both teams knotted up at 2 runs apiece going into the 7th inning, however, it would take extra innings to decide this one. Kirkwood would leave no doubt in the top of the 9th inning. They scored five runs on four hits to take a 7-2 lead that would ultimately be the final score. Peyton Driscoll started in the circle for the Eagles, giving up 7 hits and two runs over 8 innings, striking out six and walking one. Peyton Paulsen pitched one inning in relief, giving up no runs, one hit, and striking out two.

The second game was a stark contrast from the first. Kirkwood took the lead early and never relinquished it, only needing 5 innings to beat DMACC by a score of 13-0. They scored two runs off a DMACC error in the first, and Sydney Roe hit a sacrifice fly, scoring another run. The Eagles would then score 5 runs on 2 hits in the top of the third inning. Sophia Kruetner doubled, scoring two runs, and Peyton Johnson singled, scoring another two. The Eagles kept piling it on and in the 4th inning, both Sydney Roe and Delia Schwartz hit home runs. Sailor Hall was in the circle for Kirkwood, giving up 4 hits, 0 runs, and striking out two.

Kirkwood will head to Norfolk on Monday to take on the Northeast Hawks in a doubleheader starting at 12 PM.
