#9 Kirkwood Takes Down Northeast and Marshalltown

Cedar Rapids, IA- After a successful weekend of taking back-to-back games against #9 DMACC, the now #9 ranked Kirkwood Eagles had their sights set on ICCAC opponents, the Northeast Hawks and Marshalltown Tigers. 

In the first game on Monday afternoon, Kirkwood got on the board quickly against the Northeast Hawks in the top of the first inning after Sailor Hall hit a double, scoring one run, and Kylie Schult singled, scoring two. Sydney Roe joined the scoring club when she scored two runs in the top of the third off of her home run to center field. Peyton Paulsen started in the circle for Kirkwood, allowing only 2 hits and 0 runs over 5 innings, striking out 8 hitters and walking one. The final score for the game was 8-0 in favor of the Eagles. 

In the second game against Northeast, the offense stayed on point for the Eagles. Kirkwood got off to what is starting to become a customary start for them, by scoring 9 runs in the top of the first. During the game, Sophia Kreutner collected three hits in four at-bats, where she singled in the 1st, singled in the second, and homered to center field in the 3rd. Rachael Schlotter, Peyton Johnson, and Kiya Johnson joined Kreutner in the homerun club, with Kiya Johnson's being a grand slam to center in the top of the second. Overall, Kirkwood collected 19 hits in the 14-2 win. 

On Tuesday afternoon, the Eagles battled the Tigers of Marshalltown in a doubleheader. The theme would quickly become apparent for both games and that would be one of shutouts. The bats stayed red hot for the Eagles and in particular, Sydney Roe. Roe would hit two home runs in the first game for the Eagles in the first and second innings. Sailor Hall would put the Eagles on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with a double, scoring one, and Grace Zaugg would also double, scoring one. Along with Roe's home run in the 2nd, Kiya Johnson and Sailor Hall would both hit home runs in the inning as well. Natalie Vitek started in the circle for the Eagles. She gave up only 3 hits and 0 runs while striking out three in 5 innings pitched. Kirkwood would win the game 11-0. 

Kirkwood would again waste no time in the second game. They got on the board in the bottom of the first with Lexi Hines homering to left field and Kiya Johnson doubling which scored one run. That would not be Lexi Hines's only home run of the day, she would hit another and drive in a total of 5 runs in the game. Kirkwood would then score 5 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the second inning. Sophia Kreutner doubled, scoring three runs and Kiya Johnson hit a home run which scored two. Delia Schwartz hit a home run to center field in the third, scoring two runs of her own. Sailor Hall started pitching for the Eagles and gave up 0 hits and 0 runs while striking out 3. Kirkwood would end up with 14 hits in the game and win by a score of 16-0.
