Golfers win 6th regional title in row

RIVERSIDE – James Morgan and the Kirkwood golfers did it again Sunday.

Morgan claimed medalist honors for the second straight year and the Eagles captured the regional title for the sixth straight time at the Blue Top Ridge course in Riverside.

Morgan is the only golfer in school history to win two regional titles. He posted a three-shot victory over teammate Kolby Shackelford with rounds of 70, 76 and 72 for a 54-hole score of 2-over-par 218.

Shackelford fired rounds of 73, 73 and 75 to finish at 221. JD Pollard of Kirkwood tied for sixth at 13-over 229, Harry Oddy tied for ninth at 19-over 235 and Brandon McCarty was 11th at 237.

Kirkwood edged Iowa Central by two shots for the team championship, 901 to 903.

The Eagles won the regional title for the 15th time in the last 17 years. They advance to the NJCAA Division II national tournament at the Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind., May 18-21.
