Kirkwood Volleyball Takes Home Opener

Cedar Rapids, IA. – The Kirkwood Eagles made their home debut tonight in Johnson Hall against Grand View College JV. There was a buzz in the air tonight with a large crowd, blossoming with Kirkwood students beginning the school year this past Monday. The Eagles were able to deliver a convincing victory, winning 3 sets in a row (25-12, 25-15, 25-19). Their record is now 4-1.

Makayla Howard and Emma Cross followed up their strong weekend performances with 14 kills and 10 kills, hitting 0.353 and 0.529, respectively. Freshman setter, Sydney Matthias, dished out 30 assists on the night to her teammates, a 5-assist improvement from her performance last Saturday. Freshman, Maggie Lueck, got in on the fun tonight with a trio of aces that got the home crowd going.

On the defensive side, Lily Van Severen led the charge with 14 digs, Emma Cross and Addy Grimm each contributed 8 digs, Makayla Howard added 7 of her own, and Alyssa Tegeler controlled the tape tonight with a pair of solo blocks.

The Kirkwood Volleyball team travels to Moline, IL tomorrow for a 6:00 PM match-up against Black Hawk College where they will look to improve to 5-1 on the season.
