#6 Eagles go 1-1 at Warrior Triangular

Ottumwa, IA- The Kirkwood Eagles traveled to Indian Hills on Friday afternoon for a pair of matches between Carl Sandburg and Indian Hills. They split the matches, beating Carl Sandburg in straight sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-19) and losing to Indian Hills (21-25, 19-25, 15-25).

In the first match of the afternoon against the Crusaders, NJCAA Division II Defensive Player of the Week, Lily VanSeveren, notched 14 digs. Emma Cross paced the Eagles on the offensive side of the ball, hitting .480 with 14 kills on 25 attempts. Setters Sydney Matthias and Grace Embretson were both dishing out assists, putting up 23 and 10, respectively. Lexi Hearn added 7 seven kills of her own and the Eagles never lost their lead. 


Kirkwood then took on NJCAA Division I team, Indian Hills. The first set was a back and forth affair until the Warriors pulled ahead at 20-20 and closed out the match on a 5-1 run. Emma Cross put up solid numbers again, this time hitting .320 on 25 attempts with 11 kills. She also put pressure on behind the service line, adding 3 aces to her impressive afternoon. Emma Meester wasn't far behind with 7 kills on 16 attempts, hitting .312. 

The Eagles return to action next week. Next up for Kirkwood is a trip to Estherville to take on conference foes Iowa Lakes on Tuesday and a home battle against Northeast on Thursday.
