Eagles Improve to 3-0 in Conference

The Eagles were back at it again tonight in Johnson Hall to take on the Marshalltown Tigers. After going 4-1 last week against some of the best competition in the country, Kirkwood maintained their #6 position in the national rankings. Marshalltown, who was coming off a 3 set sweep over Ellsworth, looked to spoil the momentum Kirkwood has built this year.

But the Kirkwood Eagles came in with dominance on their mind and they walked out victorious, sweeping the Marshalltown Tigers in 3 sets (25-13, 25-15, 25-16).

Kirkwood saw 2 familiar faces dominate the attack line. Ava Morris put away 12 kills with a 0.600 hitting percentage, her best of the year, and Lexi Hearn added 11 of her own with a 0.375 hitting percentage, her best of the year. With Ava and Lexi controlling the bulk f the attack, the Eagles had balanced production from the other attackers: Tegeler – 8, Gaffney – 4, Meester & Cross – 3, Bonnette – 2, and Harris-Shepher – 1. Sydney Matthias dished out another 30 assists, and Grace Embretson, who is still progressing towards full-go, added 8 assists of her own. Lily Van Severen, who came into tonight's match named the ICCAC and NJCAA Player of the Week, led the charge defensively with 14 digs and the team collectively recorded 14 block assists.

Kirkwood improves their record to 14-2 overall, 3-0 in the ICCAC. This Friday at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Kirkwood will play two matches: 3:00 PM against Carl Sandburg College and 5:00 PM where they will take on the home team, Indian Hills.
