#1 Kirkwood Starts Region 11A Tournament With a Win

Kirkwood advanced to the championship game of Region 11-A with an 83-30 dismantling of Marshalltown Saturday afternoon in Johnson Hall.
The Eagles (29-0) never trailed in the contest and held a 19-11 lead after a quarter.
Kirkwood, who led 26-17 midway through the second quarter, used a 14-2 run to distance themselves from the Tigers and take a 40-19 lead into the locker room at halftime.
That run extended into the third quarter as the Eagles outscored Marshalltown 17-3 to take a 57-22 lead with 4:21 remaining in the quarter.
Kirkwood would own a comfortable 62-25 lead after three quarters of play.
The Eagles bench outscored the Tigers 34-1 on the afternoon, led by sophomore Ellah Kissell, who scored a career-high 16 points.
Sophomore Jenna Twedt finished with 15 points, while sophomore Kaliyah Sain added 12 points.
Sophomore Lizzy Puot finished with her fourth consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Kirkwood out rebounded the Tigers 52-23, including 25 offensive rebounds, which led to 23 second chance points.
The Eagles will now host #4 seed Northeast on Monday night at 5:30 pm in the Region 11-A Championship.
The winner of that game will advance to the District Championship next Saturday.
