No.9 Eagles sweep No.14 Spoon River

PEKIN, Ill. – Kirkwood softball swept a doubleheader from 14th ranked Spoon River Tuesday at the Avanti's Dome in Pekin, Ill.

The ninth-ranked Eagles won the first game, 4-1, in seven innings and claimed the nightcap, 8-0, raising their record to 4-1 for the young campaign.

The first game was tied, 1-1, after six innings, but the Eagles scored three times in the top of the seventh for the victory. Austyn Crees, Peggy Klingler, and Sydney Albaugh belted home runs for Kirkwood. Albaugh went 3-for-3 and scored twice.

Kori Wedeking got the victory in relief of Isabelle True in the opener. The two pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts.

Albaugh and Alli Ferrari hit home runs for Kirkwood in the 8-0 victory in Game 2. Kilburg was 3-for-4 and had three RBIs. Olivia Richards was 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs, and two doubles. Albaugh scored twice and drove in two runs.

Wedeking (3-0) pitched five strong innings for her third victory. She struck out six batters and allowed only three hits.
