KCC softball takes 2 from Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN - The 11th-ranked Kirkwood softball team kept sailing along Wednesday by sweeping Marshalltown, 8-0 and 13-3, in an ICCAC twin-bill in Marshalltown.

Kori Wedeking (23-3, 1.68) tossed a four-hit shutout in Game 1 and continues to lead the nation in victories. She struck out 10 batters and walked only one.

Emilee Linder went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Peggy Klingler was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Austyn Crees had two RBIs. Randyn Carter scored twice.

Payton Akers (15-4, 2.61) continued her good work in the circle in Game 2. She allowed two runs in four innings, with 10 strikeouts and no walks.

Klingler went 4-for-4 with three runs, a homer and four RBIs. Linder was 2-for-3 with two runs, a homer and three RBIs. Sydney Albaugh finished 2-for-4 with two runs, a homer and two RBIs. Olivia Richards was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Reagan Schutte scored twice.

Kirkwood has won nine of its last 10 games, raising its records to 43-10 overall and 32-6 in the conference, still locked in a battle for the league title with DMACC (33-5). Marshalltown fell to 9-45 overall and 5-33 in the conference.

Kirkwood has hit 105 home runs, tied for Parkland for the national lead.
