KCC softball sweeps Reivers away

The Iowa Western softball team arrived in Cedar Rapids the other day with a flashy 20-2 record.

The Reivers went back to Council  Bluffs with a 20-6 mark after dropping all four games in their series to Kirkwood.

The seventh-ranked Eagles finished the clean sweep Monday, 5-3 and 13-2, on a windy day at Kirkwood.

The Eagles raised their records to 20-5 overall and 9-1 in the ICCAC conference. Iowa Western fell to 20-6 overall and 7-5 in the league.

Kori Wedeking raised her record to 11-1 with the 5-3 victory in the opener. All three of Iowa Western's runs were unearned, dropping her ERA to 1.17 for the season.

Wedeking is tied for the NJCAA Division II national lead with 11 victories and is fourth in the country with 94 strikeouts in 78 innings.

Angie Gorkow went 2-for-2 for Kirkwood in the opener and Haley Jarrett scored twice.

Brooke Kilburg went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs in the second game, which ended after 4 1/2 innings due to the 8-run mercy rule.

Alli Ferrari drove in two runs. Kilburg, Peggy Klingler, Gorkow and Jarrett all scored twice.

Payton Akers (5-1) allowed only one earned run in five innings for the victory.
