No.8 KCC softball sweeps Northeast

The eighth-ranked Kirkwood softball team erupted for 30 runs Sunday and swept an ICCAC doubleheader from Northeast, 21-4 and 9-4, at the Kirkwood field.

The Eagles raised their records to 25-8 overall and 14-4 in the conference, just one game behind DMACC in the league standings. Northeast fell to 10-22 overall and 4-16 in the conference.

Emilee Linder and Angie Gorkow were the hitting stars for Kirkwood in the 21-4 victory in the opener.

Linder was 3-for-4 with a double, a pair of three-run homers and seven RBIs. Both of her homers came in the second inning when the Eagles scored 12 runs.

Gorkow collected a three-run triple in the first inning to put Kirkwood on the scoreboard, then followed with a two-run double in the second inning before yielding to a pinch-hitter.

Austyn Crees, Kennedy Hill and Jessie Frasher had two hits in the opener. Hill and Reagan Schutte drove in two runs. Cress and Hill scored three times. Brooke Kilburg, Sydney Albaugh, Olivia Richards, Haley Jarrett and Jessie Frasher scored twice.

Kori Wedeking (14-2) pitched three strong innings for the victory.

Kirkwood scored six runs in the third inning of the second game to erase a 3-2 deficit and grab an 8-3 lead. Crees and Gorkow hit home runs in the nightcap. Linder went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple to continue her big day.

Richards, Crees and Frasher drove in two runs. Gorkow, Alecea Mendoza and Frasher had two hits, with Mendoza collecting a pair of doubles. Linder, Albaugh and Mendoza scored twice.

Isabelle True (4-3) pitched a complete game for the victory, allowing only one earned run with nine strikeouts.
