No.7 Eagles soar with 30 runs

The powerful Kirkwood Eagles scored 30 runs Thursday and swept an ICCAC doubleheader from Southeastern, 10-0 and 20-1, at the Kirkwood softball field.

The seventh-ranked Eagles raised their records to 31-8 overall and 20-4 in the lead, essentially tied with DMACC (19-3) for the overall conference lead.

Kirkwood belted six home runs in the twin bill, giving them 75 for the season. That ranks second among all NJCAA Division II softball teams in the country.

Peggy Klingler and Randy Carter socked homers in the 10-0 victory in the opener in six innings. Klingler was 2-for-3 with a double, homer and six RBIs. Carter was 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBIs. Angie Gorkow scored twice.

Kori Wedeking (17-2) pitched a three-hit shutout with three strikeouts and no walks.

Sydney Albaugh, Reagan Schutte, Austyn Crees and Carter hit round-trippers in the 20-1 cruise in five innings in the nightcap. 

Schutte was 2-for-2 with five RBIs. Crees was 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs. Carter also drove in three runs. Albaugh was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs. Emilee Linder went 3-for-3 and scored three times. Haley Jarrett and Alecea Mendoza drove in two runs. Olivia Richards, Gorkow and Brooke Kilburg scored twice.

Payton Akers (9-3) pitched four strong innings for the victory.

Southeastern fell to 17-20 overall and 8-18 in the league.
