KCC softball team drubs Iowa Western

The Kirkwood Eagles wore their hitting shoes to the ballpark Sunday afternoon.

The seventh-ranked Eagles swept Iowa Western, 12-2 and 15-2, in an ICCAC doubleheader at Kirkwood.

Both games were stopped after 4 1/2 innings by the eight-run mercy rule.

Kirkwood raised its records to 18-5 overall and 7-1 in the conference. Iowa Western, which has been enjoying a fine season, fell to 20-4 overall and 7-3 in the league.

Emilee Linder belted two home runs and drove in five runs in the 12-2 romp in the opener. Brooke Kilburg also socked a round-tripper and drove in three runs. Olivia Richards was 3-for-3. Linder, Sydney Albaugh, and Richards all scored twice.

Kori Wedeling (10-1) pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts in Game 1.

Linder, Austyn Crees, and Sydney Albaugh hit home runs for Kirkwood in the second game. Kilburg and Linder had three RBIs. Cress was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Alli Ferrari was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Kilburg and Jessie Frasher also had two hits.

Payton Akers (2-0) was credited with the victory with two spotless innings in the circle.
