No.7 Eagles belt 13 homers

The long balls were flying for the Kirkwood softball team Friday.

The seventh-ranked Eagles belted 13 home runs and swept a doubleheader from Metropolitan Community College, 15-13 and 21-4, Friday in Gladstone, Mo.

The power surge ended Saturday, however, as Kirkwood was swept by Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, 10-0 and 10-2, in Miami, Okla.

The Eagles ended their trip with a 9-4 record for the campaign.

Peggy Klingler, Angie Gorkow, Randyn Carter, Reagan Schutte and Alecea Mendoza swatted home runs in the 15-13 victory Friday. Carter was 3-for-5 with three runs and six RBIs.

Brooke Kilburg and Allie Ferrari belted two homers in the 21-4 verdict against Metropolitan. Emilee Linder, Sydney Albaugh, Mendoza and Gorkow also had round-trippers. Ferrari collected five RBIs. Kilburg and Mendoza had four apiece.

Kirkwood managed only 10 hits in the doubleheader against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, with nine singles and one double.
