Kirkwood Sweeps #2 Parkland and #24 Madison

Champaign, IL- The #6 Kirkwood Eagles traveled to Champaign, IL, this past weekend to take on the #2 Parkland Cobras and the #24 Madison College Wolves. Kirkwood was coming off an ICCAC win on Wednesday against Marshalltown and was looking to carry momentum into the weekend. 

The weekend started off against the Cobras on Saturday morning. Kirkwood was down 23-24 in the first set, but a 3-point run by the Eagles allowed them to steal the first set 26-24. From there, Kirkwood didn't look back. They took the second set 25-21 and the third 25-23, sweeping the #2 team in the country. It was a well-balanced attack by Kirkwood, with Josie Bryan adding 9 kills, Kaci Johnson putting up 11 kills, and Emma Meester having 10 herself. Kaci Johnson would mark another triple-double for the year with 11 kills, 19 assists, and 13 digs. Lily VanSeveren would lead everyone defensively with 16 digs in the three-set match. 

The last match of the weekend was against the #24 Madison College Wolves. The Eagles cruised in the first set, 25-16. The next set was more back and forth with Kirkwood edging out the win, 26-24. And in the final set, Kirkwood led the entire way, finishing the match at 25-18. Kaci Johnson once again led all attackers with 7 kills, but Kirkwood was well-rounded again, getting a balanced attack from Maggye Smith, Ava Harris-Shepard, Emma Meester, Josie Bryan, and Chloe Baez. 

Kirkwood has a matchup against ICCAC rival Hawkeye on Wednesday at 6pm in Waterloo.
