
#2 Kirkwood Overwhelms Western Iowa Tech
Cedar Rapids, IA- The #2 Kirkwood Eagles welcomed the Western Iowa Tech Comets into Johnson Hall on Tuesday for an important ICCAC matchup. Kirkwood (7-0 ICCAC) was looking to stay unbeaten in conference while the Comets (5-2 ICCAC) were looking for the upset.
The Eagles got off to a quick start taking the first set by a score of 25-22. They didn't slow up in set 2, never giving up the lead and winning the set 25-17 to take a 2-0 lead. The Comets wouldn't go away, however, and would use some strong serving and key side outs to take the third set 25-19. Not detered, the Eagle would show resilience in the 4th set and dominate the game, winning the match 3-1 with a set score of 25-12.
Kaci Johnson would lead the way for the Eagles, hitting .478 on 12 kills and added 28 assists. Lily VanSevern would pace the back court with 20 digs and Natalee Hartman would add 15 of her own. Emma Meester would hit .320 on 11 kills and both freshman outsides, Josie Bryan and Marissa Cahoy, would add 11 kills each.
The Eagles travel to Mason City this Thursday to take on the NIACC Trojans at 7pm.
