#3 Kirkwood Goes 2-0 at DMACC Invitational

Boone, IA- The #3 Kirkwood Eagles traveled to Boone on Saturday to compete in the DMACC Invitational. The Eagles would take on Bismarck State and #12 Illinois Central. 

Kirkwood would show a consistent defensive and offensive effort in their first match against Bismarck. The Eagles would hit .290 as a team and have 54 digs in their three set sweep of Bismarck. Freshman Maggye Smith would pace the Eagles with 9 kills on 22 attempts, hitting .273 on the match. Ava Harris-Shepard would hit .500 on 14 swings with 7 kills and freshman Kaci Johnson would be right behind her with 8 kills of her own. Sydney Matthias would have 13 assists on the match and Johnson would have 14. Lily VanSeveren would lead the Eagles in digs with 14 in the 3 set victory. 

In the second match of the day, Kirkwood would take on the #12 Illinois Central Cougars. Although Kirkwood would drop the first set, their consistency through the match would allow them to prevail in a 4 set victory. Two Eagles had double digit kills, Marissa Cahoy with a team high 14 and Ava Harris-Shepard with 12 kills on 19 attempts hitting .526. Three Eagles would have double-digit kills, VanSeveren with 19, Johnson with 15, and Natalee Hartman with 10 of her own. Kirkwood would also have 7 service aces and hit a .329 in the match as a team.

The Eagles take on the DMACC Bears this Wednesday at 6:30 at Johnson Hall in what will be a pivotal ICCAC matchup.
