#3 Eagles Defeat DMACC
Cedar Rapids, IA- The third ranked Kirkwood Eagles (6-0 ICCAC) took on the DMACC Bears (4-2 ICCAC) inside of Johnson Hall on Wednesday night for a pivotal ICCAC matchup.
The stands were packed as Kirkwood was looking to stay unbeaten in the ICCAC. The first set started off exchanging points back and forth but a small run for the Eagles would give them a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Kirkwood would take the first set 25-14. The second set was much like the first with Kirkwood taking a 2-0 set lead with a score of 25-17. In the third set, Kirkwood would be down by as many as 5 points at 19-14, however, they would make a late push and even take the lead at 24-21. But the Bears wouldn't allow the match to end and pushed back all the way to take the set 26-24. Kirkwood would bounce back in the 4th and never allow DMACC to get a lead in the set, finishing the match 25-15.
Kirkwood would continue its offense consistency with 5 hitters hitting over .300. Ava Harris-Shepard had 8 kills on 15 attempts, Josie Bryan had 11 kills on 20 attempts, and Kaci Johnson would put down 9 kills of her on on 14 total attempts. It would be freshman Marissa Cahoy who would lead all hitters with 13 kills on 36 attempts, hitting .306 on the outside. Both Kaci Johnson and Sydney Matthias would have 20 assists and 3-time ICCAC Defensive Player of the Week, Lily VanSeveren, would have 20 digs leading all Kirkwood players.
Kirkwood travels to Heartland this weekend where it will take on Spoon River, Lincoln Land, #18 Moraine Valley, and #20 Rock Valley.
