FAST START FOR NO.8 KCC VOLLEYBALL

Rockford, Ill. - The eighth-ranked Kirkwood women's volleyball team began the 2022 campaign with four straight victories at the OWT tournament this past weekend in Rockford, Ill.
 
The Eagles swept fifth-ranked Sauk Valley, 25-21, 25-20, 25-14, to highlight their impressive performance. They also defeated St. Louis Community College (3-0), Mott Community College (3-1) and Southwestern Illinois (3-1).
 
The young Eagles, who have 11 freshmen and five sophomores on the roster, received contributions from numerous players in the tournament.
 
Allison Bonnette collected 13 kills against St. Louis. Gracie Ehret had 19 assists, Sierra Marshall made 13 digs, Brianna Justsen blocked five shots and Bailey Huff had four aces.
 
Ehret dished out 22 assists against Sauk Valley. Marshall had 13 digs, Bonnette finished with nine kills and Justsen finished with five blocks.
 
Avery Dusterhoft and Bonnette shared the team lead with 12 kills against Mott. Ava Morris had 11 kills. Ehret rolled up 37 assists. Grace Embretson made 21 digs and Alyssa Tegeler had four blocks.
 
Justsen led the team offensively with 12 kills and Tegeler had 10 against Southwestern Illinois. Ehret finished with 31 assists and 10 digs. Tegeler added four blocks.
 
The Eagles are back in action Wednesday with their home opener vs. Grand View University JV, 6:30 pm Johnson Hall.
