Kirkwood Names Brown Head Volleyball Coach

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 25, 2023)–Kirkwood Community College has announced the hiring of David Brown as the next head coach of the Kirkwood volleyball program.

Most recently the athletic director of the Fall River School District in Fall River, Wisconsin, Brown comes to Kirkwood with an extensive collegiate volleyball background, including multiple NCAA Division I-level coaching positions.

From 2020 to 2022, Brown was the assistant volleyball coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Iowa. In addition to his coaching duties, he ran team recruiting efforts and scouted upcoming opponents.

Prior to coaching at Iowa, Brown was the associate head coach at Loyola University Chicago from 2018 to 2020. While at Loyola, Brown was named a Thirty Under 30 Award recipient from the American Volleyball Coaches Association for up-and-coming young coaches. He was one of only 11 coaches to receive the honor.

From 2014 to 2018, Brown was the associate head volleyball coach at the University of Southern Mississippi. While at Southern Miss, he helped coach the team to four 20-win seasons.

Brown began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach at UC Santa Barbara where he helped the Gauchos win the Big West in 2013 and reach the NCAA tournament for the first time in four seasons.

According to Brown, the chance to coach the Eagles is an exciting opportunity.

Kirkwood is an amazing place and I look forward to building on the already established success the volleyball program has had for many years."

Brown takes over the Eagles volleyball program following the retirement announcement of current Head Coach Jill Williams. He will officially start his new position on June 26.
