EAGLES FINISH 8TH AT NATIONALS

The Kirkwood women's volleyball team placed eighth at the NJCAA Division II national tournament at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids Saturday.

The Eagles defeated Moraine Valley, 3-2, in the opening round Thursday afternoon, but they suffered three straight losses in the rest of the tournament.

Kirkwood lost to Parkland, 3-0, in the quarterfinals; lost to Cowley County, 3-0, in a consolation match; and fell to Iowa Central, 3-1, in the consolation match for seventh place in a final showdown between two rivals from the ICCAC conference.

Kirkwood finished the season with a 35-11 record.

Richard Bland College defeated Scottsdale in the championship match, 3-2. Richard Bland was seeded No. 5 in the 16-team tournament and Scottsdale was No. 6.
