Kirkwood Men's Basketball pull off win on road

The Kirkwood men's basketball team pulled out a tough win on the road at Marshalltown (7-3) Wednesday night, by a score of 60-59. The win pushes the Eagles record to 7-6 (ICCAC).

As it has been for many games this year, the Eagle's tough defensive approach is what won them this game despite their offense stalling for the majority of the second half. Kirkwood held Marshalltown to only 33.3% shooting from the field and just 14.8% from beyond the arc.

The Tigers took the lead 59-57 with 33.5 seconds to go in the game, which was followed by the Eagles Head Coach Tim Sandquist taking a timeout with 30 seconds left on the clock. The Eagles came out of the time-out and got a post entry to guard Noah King (Caledonia, MN), who felt the double come from one of the Marshalltown defenders and found a wide-open teammate at the top of the key. That teammate was Freshman forward Caleb Delzell (Camanche, IA), who without hesitation caught the pass from King in rhythm and hoisted a three that splashed in with 18 seconds left, to give the Eagles a 60-59 lead, where the score would end.

The Eagles were lead on the night by King who scored a total of 13 points on 5-10 shooting from the field and 3-6 from beyond the arc. Following King was none other than Caleb Delzell who chipped in 11 points.

Kirkwood returns home on Saturday (March 6th) to take on a very hot Iowa Lakes CC (#6) team that has won 8 games in a row. The Lakers come into Johnson Hall with a 10-3 record on the year.
