King steers Eagles by No.6 Lakers

Noah King
was the king of 3-pointers Saturday.

King hit seven triples and scored a career-high 30 points as the Kirkwood Eagles bumped off sixth-ranked Iowa Lakes, 92-77, in an ICCAC contest at Johnson Hall.

King swished four 3-pointers in the first eight minutes to help the Eagles get off to a fast start. He finished 7-of-10 from behind the arc and complemented his terrific shooting with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

"Noah was due for a breakout game like that," said KCC Coach Tim Sandquist. "He had them all the time in high school."

"He's like every other freshman. He's had to adjust to the college game. He shoots like that in practice, and it finally showed up in a big game today."

King, from Caledonia, Minn, was averaging 10 points when the day began and tripled that against the Lakers. He was hot from the beginning until the end.

"Anytime you have the first one go in, that's a good feeling," said King. "Actually it didn't feel great in warm-ups, but then the first one went in and I had a lot of confidence."

Kirkwood played its best game of the season against Iowa Lakes, which saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end.

"That was by far our most complete game, offensively and defensively," said Sandquist. "I think this young group has learned a lot of hard lessons this year. And those mistakes were corrected tonight."

Kirkwood has won three straight games, raising its record to 8-6.

"This group is a bunch of winners," said Sandquist. "They won in high school, but now they're learning how to do it in college. It's a different deal. Winners don't quit."

Kirkwood surged to a 21-point lead in the second half and never trailed after taking a 5-3 lead on a 3-pointer by King.

"That was a big win for us," said King. "A really fun game and a good performance by the team. We did a good job of jumping on them right away."

Corvon Seales contributed 15 points and six rebounds for the Eagles. Blake Brinkmeyer scored 14 points. Kirkwood hit 55 percent of its 3-pointers, nailing 11 of 20.

Dillon Carlson tossed in 21 points for Iowa Lakes (10-4).
