KCC SOFTBALL SWEEPS NIACC, 72-7
The Kirkwood softball team feasted on the NIACC Trojans in a four-game series at Kirkwood this weekend.
The eighth-ranked Eagles pummeled NIACC by a combined score of 72-7, capped by a 33-3 thrashing in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Kirkwood belted 17 home runs in the series.
The onslaught began Friday when the Eagles swept the twin bill, 18-3 and 15-0. It continued Saturday, 6-1 and 33-3.
Kirkwood raised its records to 28-12 overall and 16-4 in the ICCAC conference. NIACC fell to 3-25 overall and 0-16 in the league.
Emilee Linder, Neveah Hildebrandt, Annie Gahan and Sarah Heick belted home runs in the 18-3 verdict Friday. Linder went 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Kara Maiers got the victory with eight strikeouts.
Alecea Mendoza, Peggy Klingler and Gahan socked homers in the 15-0 triumph Friday. Mendoza and Gahan collected four RBIs. Kori Wedeking (11-4, 2.09) tossed a no-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Klingler and Mendoza connected for home runs again in the 6-1 victory in Game 1 Saturday. Payton Akers (10-6, 2.38) struck out 11 batters.
Grace Lubben and Reagan Schutte had two homers in the 33-3 victory. Hildebrandt, Klingler, Mendoza, and Chelsea Buck also hit home runs. Lubben scored five times and had seven RBIs. Klingler was 3-for-3 with six RBIs. Hildebrandt drove in four runs. Maiers (7-2, 2.98) got the win.
